Lewis Brandenburg

Mr. Lewis Harley Brandenburg, age 70 of Senoia, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2010 after an extended illness. He was born December 1, 1939 to the late Harvey Lewis and Allie Mae Brandenburg formerly of Sharpsburg. Mr. Brandenburg attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and Southern Polytechnic State University, earning his Textile Engineering degree in 1960. He worked most of his professional career at Southern Mills, Senoia, Georgia, and was involved in the development of Nomex ®, a flame retardant material used by fire-fighters, in 1967. After leaving the Textile industry, Mr. Brandenburg operated a Construction and Landscape company before becoming disabled. Mr. Brandenburg is survived by his wife, Elayne Williams Brandenburg of Senoia; four sons, Thomas and Mary Brandenburg, Fayetteville; Bryant and Marla Brandenburg, Newnan; Mark and Jackie Brandenburg of Jacksonville, Florida; and Michael and Annette Harper of Washington, DC. He is also survived by four daughters, Martina and Kyle Wilson; Susan and Gary Johnson; and Kim and Al Robertson III, all of Newnan; and Jill and Toby Adcock of Senoia; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Brandenburg was preceded in death by his wife, Christa Meith Brandenburg. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mckoon.com. Graveside services for Lewis Harley Brandenburg will be held at the Senoia City Cemetery at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 27, 2010. The family will be receiving friends and family at McKoon Funeral Home on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
